What we hold, who sees it, and when it goes
This service asks for unusually personal things — your faith, your family, your marital history, your identity documents. This page says plainly what happens to all of it.
What we collect
When you join: your name, email, date of birth, city, and your answers to three questions (18+, Muslim, currently unmarried). If a family member started your profile, what they entered is shown to you to confirm or change.
As you complete your profile: a longer set of answers about your faith and practice, family and what you want from a marriage; your preferences; photographs; and, if you choose, your wali’s (a family guardian’s) name and contact details, and your mobile number for reminder texts — which we keep only while you agree to texts.
Identity: a government ID and a live selfie, handled by Stripe Identity. We never hold your documents — we keep their reference and their answer.
Payment: your card is held by Stripe. We keep only its brand and last four digits.
Community reference: if you ask for one, what your imam or mosque representative writes about you.
As you use it: the proposals you received and what you decided, whether you met, and the private feedback you give us afterwards.
Who can see what
As a proposal — up to three people at a time, each of whom fits what you are looking for and whom you fit, see your first name, age, city, a few facts about practice, tradition and languages, and your community reference if you chose to show it. No photographs. Nobody else can see you exist.
If you are both interested — that one person sees your approved photographs, watermarked with their name. Our team checks every photograph before anyone sees it.
Once you are introduced, and only once you have both agreed — the contact details you chose to release.
Never released to another member, at any stage: your identity documents or their results, your exact address, your card, your private feedback, our internal notes, or anything you told us in confidence. There is no feature request that changes this. Your interest in someone is never shown unless it is mutual.
Your wali’s details
If you name a guardian, we ask you to confirm they have agreed to be contacted before we will store a phone number or email for them. They are a person who did not come to us, and we treat their details that way. They are never shown to another member.
How long we keep it
Only as long as it serves the purpose you gave it for. The clock runs from the decision that concluded things, not from the day you applied.
| If | We keep your details for |
|---|---|
| You applied and never completed | 90 days |
| We were not able to accept you | 12 months |
| You were waitlisted | 12 months from our last contact |
| You were a member and have left | 24 months |
| Photographs | Deleted 30 days after a decision — sooner than anything else |
After that we erase your name, contact details, identity references and everything you wrote. We keep two things: the bare fact that you applied and what was decided — so that we can answer you honestly if you come back — and an anonymous record of outcomes with no name, no identifier, and ages only in five-year bands.
That anonymous record is how we learn what actually predicts a second meeting. It cannot be traced to you, and it is the only thing that outlives your account.
Who else is involved
Identity verification and payments are handled by third parties, and email and text messages are sent through a provider. We share the minimum each needs and nothing more. Nobody is sold anything, ever — there is no version of this business where the members are the product.
What you can ask us for
A copy of what we hold about you. A correction. To withdraw your consent and have your account closed — after which the schedule above applies. Ask a person; you will get a person.
